Set Victorian Brass Door Knob Handles Bird Griffin Lion RARE ORNATE C. 1868 COMPLETE SET WITH BACK PLATE & LOCK Start Price USD 99.99 Current Price USD 425.00 Time Left - Bid Count 11 Buy It Now Price - Reserve Price - Start Time Monday, November 17, 2008 End Time Monday, November 24, 2008 Location point pleasant nj See more about 'Set Victorian Brass Door Knob Handles Bird Griffin Lion' Description Great set of Very ornate brass Victorian door knobs.  Fresh from a local estate & guaranteed old and original.  The knobs are in excellent original condition with no damage of any kind.    The knobs are made of solid brass  with a bronze patina and ornately cast.  Both knobs have a bird on the front with flowers.  The sides of the door knobs have winged griffins and lion heads cast all the way around them.  All of the casting work on the knobs is very finely done.  Both knobs are identical in design but are different in diameter.  The larger knob measures 2 1/2" in diameter by 2 1/8" in depth.  The smaller knob measures 2 1/4" in diameter by 2" in depth.  I have been told this was very common in Victorian homes to have different size knobs on the same door. The keyplate is also ornately decorated.  the lock is dated 1868. it also has decoration on it. there is just a very very slight bend on the lock plate that can be seen faintly in the pictures. I could not find a makers mark anywhere on the knobs.  The steel shaft that connects the knobs is adjustable and this set will fit any thickness door.
